Where 80's Metal Fans Connect

This is Poison's third studio album and marks a step up musically for the band. In particular, CC Deville, much maligned for his guitar work through the years, made a huge leap in his style of play. The album spawned two hit singles, Unskinny Bop and Something To Believe In, but Life Goes On, Flesh and Blood, and Ride the Wind all became hit singles to varying degrees.
The album cover was supposed to show the Poison logo and the name of the album tattooed on Rikki Rockett's arm, but instead was pulled at the last minute due to Rikki's arm still being inflamed from the tattoo process. The album also features several songs that take on a darker, more personal note than the previous two Poison records.

As for the meaning of Unskinny Bop, the band has admitted it really means nothing. It was a musical measure that CC was playing and Brett liked. The producer thought that Unskinny Bop was a perfect lyrical fit for the music, and the song stayed on the album.

Relive Flesh and Blood today, released in 1990, if you get a chance. The album marks a maturity in Poison's sound, and it is our Album O' The Week. For your pleasure, I've included a picture of the original album cover, complete with Rikki's puffed up arm. Enjoy your Thursday Angels, I'll see you in a bit.

My favorite Poison album is always a toss-up between the first 3....This is a great album, and one of the favorites in my collection. The big hits on it are good...but it also included a number of greatly underrated songs like; Life Loves A Tragedy, Don't Give Up An Inch, and Ball & Chain..among others.

Love this album, good write up Rob!

Interesting -- I was listening to this just this morning for the first time in a long time. It has my all-time favorite Poison song on it, Life Loves a Tragedy.

That's the only album cover I've seen for this that I can recal (and I'm almost positive it's the one that I had, but not 100% sure)l -- what was the alternate one?

I just went out and looked at my copy and that's what's on it...lol I would love to see the alternate as well:)

And there you have it. Great sleuth work by both you and I -- we can get some shit done, can't we? We should run for Pres and VP in 2012 -- you can be the pres. (it's time for a woman president) and I will sit back and ride your coat tails...

Now being as I am a Poison fan:) I love all their music but this cd in particular seemed to be more blues influenced and very emotionally charged....Ride the Wind will always be close to my heart....as will the whole cd, this tour was the first time I saw them and the memory still lingers(which little else does in this brain) And Something to Believe in came out during a time which I think gave a bit of inspiration...This cd was def. a turn for Poison, I feel that they did go more bluesy and it worked...most of the songs still resinate with me...But I do believe that Unskinny Bob had to do with CC and some young ladies who were "unskinny" but that's just putting things from interveiws together from through the years:)

i like this record, yeahhh.

But just remind me, does this include: "Life goes on" "Ride The wind".

I do know for sure that "Unskinny bop" is here (by the way, probably one of the worst singles ever released by Poison) but the rest is good including the title album song.
