MOTLEY CRUE CLAIMS TO HAVE THE FIRST POWER BALLAD, I DISAGREE...
THEY MAY HAVE HAD A MONSTER HIT WITH HOME SWEET HOME, BUT IT WAS NOT THE FIRST...

i had no idea the Crue actually 'claimed' the t5itle of the '1sr' power ballad...? WHAT A COMPLETE & TOTAL LOAD OF UTTER FUCKING BOLLOCKS...!!!!!!! WHO THA FUCK THEY KIDD'N ???? I wont even grace their comment with a response...lmfao.......thanx for the heads-up on that but dude,i needed a good belly laugh....lol \MM/
I'd have to say "Changes" by Black Sabbath in 1972 would be the first ballad
A "power ballad" starts soft/slow and ends fast/heavy, a song like BETH or CHANGES is just a ballad, as are most of the ones listed.

Perhaps not the first, but the most copied is LED ZEP's STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN.
See Herb, that was the first one that came to mind, Stairway is The quintessential power ballad..I think it could very well be the first...
I agree. Stairway to Heaven is the first song that came to play in the head, when you think about the the first power ballad..Led show everyone how to do it!
Certainly the biggest one :)
Aerosmith 's Dream On, 1973, Led's Stairways 1971...Alice's How u gonna see me now, 1978

"Love, Reign o'er Me" by the Who in 1973 also came to my mind…
ohh, I didn't think of Dream On but I think that still goes with the ballad type, idk, ? hmmm but Stairway is still first, year wise...
Nazereth- Love Hurts not sure of the year of release but I'm sure it was before the Crue. I would have to agree that Stairway to Heaven was the first true power ballad
Love Hurts was performed by the Everly Brothers in 1960, don't think their original version counts as an early power-ballad though ;)-
¿RATT, You´re in love?..................................that´s not a ballad at all.

¿Motley says?...........they don´t say, critics say, people interviewed at documentals say, not the boys, at least i haven´t heard them.

And what those people say is that it was the first power ballad that inspired other bands to release a power ballad as a single with a video and all......and to be the second single and establish that as a rule (almost) and lots of bands actually did that procedure..........they will release a rocker single and then a ballad that was the formula that Motley established.
And yes.....they were the first to do this.

¿Dokken? In my dreams, that´s not a ballad either, that´s a slow song.
A ballad would be "So tired" Ozzy.
I see where your going and I think that you could be correct....hmmm, think about Mtv started in 84 I believe, and then if it wasn't Crue who would it have been? Video and single wise?
