Pantera. A band staying true to their metal roots in the face of the 90's grunge wave. The band will of course forever be closely associated with the tragedy that befell Dime Bag while on stage with Damageplan, but they were an extremely talented bunch who carried (and still carry) a very rabid loyal fanbase. They were indeed on of the bright spots in metal as grunge closed in around us.
To me, the early 90's days of Pantera were much more likeable than the stuff that came after. Tensions in the band between Anselmo and the others were high, and it seems the cohesiveness left in some of the later recordings. Let's take Cowboys From Hell, the title track from the insanely popular Cowboys From Hell album, and mash it up against Walk...the most prominent track on the excellent Vulgar Display Of Power.
