Where 80's Metal Fans Connect

I don't know that there are even a dozen active members of this group anymore.  I have done my best to try to save it, to keep it alive and interesting.   Sadly it just seems like no one cares anymore or people are so wrapped up in Facebook they have forgotten MFA.

Anyway, recently Eddie Trunk gave some opinions, and good ones, about KISS.  His write up on his recent feeling about the band is well written and respectful.  My respect level for Mr Trunk has gone way up after reading it.

So along that line I have written my thoughts and am posting them here for anyone to read and respond to.

I respect Eddie Trunk's opinions, and I'm an Eddie Trunk fan. I don't agree with his opinions about the makeup thing, I say the band made their decision, either accept that or as Eddie put it jump ship. It's a debate that goes on and on with fans and as long as it's respectful I don't have a problem discussing it. I do know for a fact that the current lineup is four amazing guys who love what they do and put on a killer show. No, it isn't the same as when it was the originals, and yeah, it is weird to hear Shock Me and see the rockets being launched from the guitar and know it isn't Ace Frehley doing it. It was weird to hear someone else sing a song that has been near and dear to me for years, one of my favorite KISS ballads, and look up on the stage and not see Peter Criss. Peter singing Beth was a special part of the show when he was in the band, it's a song he wrote before he even joined KISS. So I'm thinking why the <censored> is Eric Singer performing it (he did do a nice job on it though)? The thing for me is that, aside from the music, I do not own any KISS merchandise that isn't the originals. The original fearsome foursome of Gene,Ace, Paul, and Peter will always be the real deal to me, that's KISS at their best in my opinion. However, I loved Eric Carr, never really cared for Vinnie, Mark wasn't in the band long enough to have an opinion on, but he was really good! Bruce was awesome and the lineup of Bruce, Eric Carr, G & P is my 2nd favorite. Now, after almost 40 years of being a fan I can say that I think the makeup decision was the worst decision the band ever made. The prices they ask for some items is insane. But there is no other band that can make me feel like KISS does. When I go to a show and the words we all know ring out, the curtain drops, all Hell breaks loose, and I am transported back in time, I feel young again, and I watch my heroes (the Spaceman, the Demon, the Starchild, and the Catman) in action. No, it isn't the same, but it is still KISS and I will love this band till the day I die (I insist that their music be playing at my wake!) I say be respectful of all fans, with all opinions, but keep it civil. It really breaks my heart when I read some of the horrible arguments among KISS fans, it just shouldn't be that way. Do Journey fans that like Arnel give the Steve Perry fans Hell and vice versa? Do Guns and Roses fans get crap for liking the current lineup of that band? Do AC/DC fans that loved Bon (I'm one of them) give the Brian Johnson fans heat for liking him? No other band invokes passions in their fans like KISS does, it truly is an amazing phenomenon.

Ive been a Kiss fan since i was 10 so thats almost 35 years Peter Criss's drumming on alive 2 was what got me into drumming and i was actually lucky enough to meet Peter before he rejoined Kiss back in 95 he was super nice and and shook my hand as it was almost definitely shaking-lol my dream come true was seeing the original lineup onstage at madison square garden in 96 brought me back to that little kid being taught to play the drums by Peter via headphones,a turntable and kiss alive 2 and rock n roll over blasting into my ears my point is while nothing will ever be as good as the original the band is still touring after 40 yrs and thats impressive and while Eric is an amazing drummer and Tommy a great guitarist theyll never have that magic that the original 4 possessed

this band that we all love was born from 4 very different personalities but they all had the same vision to give us the best music and live shows ever seen.i recently read a interview where paul stanley said it was never about friendship it was about coming together for the cause it was exciting fresh and something id never seen before when i was 10 watching them for the 1st time on t.v it evoked an image that would stay with me right up till this day.i dont get into the stupid arguments about which line up is the best or worst but i did come from the early era and still think it was amasing the whole magical elements of the band not seeing them without makeup hiding there identities from cameras and media was awesome i remember the creeme shot and i still look at those pics today and think woah thats kiss without make up.i think people who have problems with the current line up need to revist there own early day memories and remember how special kiss was and still is today.i know pauls voice isnt sounding to good at the moment and hope he can get back to sounding better but i dont think it will ever be 100% again.id also like to get some feedback in regards to kiss juniors when gene and paul hang it up will eric and tom still be in the band interesting to see what unfolds.ROCK ON EVERYONE!!
