No question for me...I go with Diary Of A Madman...Blizzard is close then the rest, even though I like them, are not in the same playing field.
Ozzy has put out so many great albums, but I think the best one is, "No More Tears". I think it's the most complete overall.
Hey axeman, you know I can't argue that No More Tears is Ozzy's most complete album...I have always thought so myself. However I don't think it's his best. Sure on Diary as is on Blizzard the band is more locked into a style and groove that isn't the same with Tears. On Tears the production is better and the songs are a bit more deverse. So as a complete package I agree. However the other two have songs on them that No More Tears can not measure up to. ..the obvious...Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Flying High Again, Suicide Solution... Anyways just adding to the talk and is just my opinion...anyone else want to add maybe a different direction and album????????
you know, you are right bro... to me, No More Tears is good, but I just think is way to polished.... you know what I mean? And I believe there are certain time areas when bands go with whatever is selling out there, I am not putting down No More Tears Axeman, I love that one too..... just my opinion.......
yeah bro. Randy had the gig for life..... But I tell you what, Zakk brings it to a new level.....
mr balboskys pick is the ozzman commith ablum, but ozzy best song ever is crazy train, then flyin fuckin high again. rock on
Big C. and I were (briefly) discussing this very topic the other day, when I mentioned that I had added "Diary...." to my list of Top 5 Metal Albums Ever.
We went back-and-forth (lightly) over the merits of why one might pick "Diary" over "Blizzard", or vice-versa.
I love the fact that Ozzy has had 3 (at least) flashy superstar guitarists, plying their trade on his solo albums, with EACH having their own unique style/sound/vision. There is no real argument for Randy sounding like Zakk, or Jake sounding like Randy.
With that said, there is an almost organic sound achieved on the 1st two releases with Randy, that had them stand apart (if only in that respect), from those that followed. Jake had a sound (especially in the rhythm work), that was all his OWN, and I doubt anyone could mistake Zakk, once you hear that thick chunk accented with those harmonic-squeals of his.
This isn't intended to be "What Ozzy album had the best Guitar Playing/Sound...?", but unfortunately, just by virtue of who is responsible FOR the guitar-work on each of his albums, it has an awful lot to DO with it......
"Blizzard" had the more accesible (read : pop-hooks contained in a rather "catchy" song-structure) vibe, but "Diary" was decidedly darker, and more brooding. This was a style that fit the Ozzy/Randy combo very well, and one that (to me) felt very natural and appealing to the ear.
If it wasn't for Black Rain I would 100% agree with you! But I think Ozzy recapture what he lost after No More Tears. yeah he did put a song or two out here and there that rocked but the albums were...weak! I didn't like his voice either on most of that material.
you gotta understand bro, sooner or later everybody puts an album that sucks... either because of their contract or trying to capitalize with the new bullshit sounds...!
just my opinion..
the whole ozzy cover songs album, it fuckin' sucked....!!!!!!
Ultimate Sin will always hold a special place in my heart because it was when I discovered the OzzMan.
OZZY ROCKS!!!! Love all his stuff its hard to pick one but ozzmosis is usually in my car........
good pick brother.....
