Well as any good Leppard or Snake fans knows these 2 mega groups are or were I guess co-headlining in the UK only (too bad for me, I will settle for Poison in America). They are both great groups but I think Def Leppard are the better band. How about you?
I like them in both. But i prefer Whitesnake. Their classic songs are mandatory for jam sessions, like Fool for your lovin, Walking in the shadows of the blues, Don't break my heart again, Slow an easy, Ain't no love in the heart of the city (ok, this is a cover) Here i go again or Still on the night. And talking bout players, Whitesnake witout discussion (Cozy Powell, Ian Paice, Bernie Marsden, Jon Lord, Jon Sykes, Neil Murray, Rudy Sarzo, Reb Beach, Tommy Aldridge, Marco Mendoza between others..and of course mr. David Coverdale.)

I love them both, but I think that Whitesnake takes the cake. And eats it, and feeds a little to you after... just kidding. Really though, there's a HUUUUGE amount of talent in that band, in any of its versions. A lot of that can be acredited to David Coverdale's GROUNDSHAKING singing. I have to say I'm a little partial to the oooold WS and the WS with John Sykes in it. It was asked earlier what album could compare to Hysteria, Pyromania or... the other one I can't remember. Whitesnake (the album) alone had almost all hits on it. Pyromania not so much and Hysteria had a few.
But you know what, Def Leppard was pretty awesome too, though I think a whole lot of it's charm was in the member that died. RIP Steve Clark. He may have not been the technician, but he brought heart to those songs. BTW Rick, is one of my favorite drummers, it is AMAZING what he overcame. Rick Sav is a babe, which is funny because you hardly ever see him in videos and stuff.
Def Leppard's Hysteria had 7 hit singles on it out of twelve songs. don't think any Whitesnake album has ever had seven hits one one album. And no albums that have sold as good as Hysteria. I'm not downing Whitesnake cause I am a huge fan of them as well, but I prefer Def Leppard.
I was at the gigs last year & Whitesnake kicked Leps arse by miles but I am a huge snakes fan & not really a leps one so I'm biased. It is also true that although the leps are big over here they are thought of as a bit too American sounding,in fact at the time of Pyromania they were accused of selling out,so I'm not surprised that they are popular over there. At the end of the day it really doesn't matter who is best,it was a great tour even if I do think Whitesnake should have headlined.

I like Def Leppard but I love Whitesnake . In my view Whitesnake produced much better albums than Def Leppard did and David is a an astounding vocalist ( while Joe is ok ) and absolutely sexy ( while Joe is just cute) . The big difference is that
Def Leppard had had MTV on their side from the very beggining whereas Whitesnake had to strugglein the rock scene for years because they didn't follow trend at first. In the late 80's Whitesnake proved that they could rise to popularity if they turned fashionable . Whitesnake music and lyrics are deeper , Def Leppard's are funnier. All in all, I think that Whitesnake wins.
Whitesnake turned hair metal in the mid to late 80's. Coverdale has stated himself that he hated the whole hair metal scene. Coverdale was in his element while in Deep Purple. Def Leppard's Pyromania paved the way for rock music in the 80's and even though Def leppard wasn't hair metal it seems like all the hair metal bands of the 80's tried to copy the sound of Pyromania. Not all of Def Leppard's lyrics are funnny....they have some deeper lyrics, but everytime they tried to release something like that it got horrible reviews (ex: the Slang album) because people wanted stuff like Pour Some Sugar On Me and Rock of Ages. And by the way....I wouldn't really say "Slide It In" has deep lyrics.....now Love Bites, that is deep lyrics.
I haven´t stated anything about the depth of Slide It In lyrics or the superficiality of the Love Bites lyrics. I considered both bands material in general . I've also heard DC making his dislike for the hair metal scene public, and I understand him because Whitesnake was not a true hair metal band, he kind of re-styled the band for commercial purposes. Yes DL, WERE trend setters in the MTV era, I agree. But all in all I like DC as an artist much more than I do Joe Elliot ( don´t misunderstand me, I do like Def Leppard , though not as much as Whitesnake) DC's voice , to me , is god-like, superb.
Well we all have our opinions but from the videos I have seen Coverdale's voice is pretty much shot...he was trying to sing Here I Go Again and it was terrible. Joe doesn't have the voice he used to either tho but i think Def Leppard have more hits, therefore they put on a better show.
