ROCKET left a comment for richardAbout ur Gibson necks...i understand u. Baseball bat contour...i don't like it. I saw how little guys, around 1.60 or less than 1.70 or similar....choose guitars with that contour. A contour that their hands can't controlle, they can't grab it well, and the fingers seems to be smaller while u play on these guitars. My fav Gibson neck is the slim tapper. A cousin mine has an early 80's Les Paul Custom with slim tapper neck...is a fuckin marvel. I uses sometimes a Les Paul DeLuxe, that one very difficult for make it sound well, and has an amazing neck, and considering that the guitar is from 1973, has the frets in fantastic shape. In Strats, my tastes are different, i have high action strings adjust, and uses 10-52 strings, even for tune it in standard tuning. Strats never sound well with low strings action, and to bend full tone at 15th fret at first string, if the guitar have a bad adjust...is imposible. My Voodoo Strat is loaded also with Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickups.
Seems that slim necks are my fav, but not at all. Those Ibanez Wizard necks, seems easy to play, but playing for a long time, ur hand gets tired easier than in a thicker neck.
Before i named wrongly to my Charvel. Is N6, not M6 (Number 6).
The neck contours of Robin guitars are similar to Jackson, maybe a bit thicker. Is smaller than my Charvel M6, similar to Kramer's, very similar, or maybe a bit thicker than Ibanez JEM, and definitively smaller than a Strat neck. I've also an old Telecaster, and also has a thick neck.
I'm sure that a Robin neck will fit fantastic in your hands. And about Robin, you have to find Medley Standard models, those are the super strat type guitars.
Pickup configurations:
H-H: Medley II
H-S-S: Medley IV (the most common)
H-S-H: Medley V (My snake skin model)
And there are three body sizes. For women, of course the coolest is the smaller. Easily recognisable due to the slim horns. My white one is a medium size, and snake is the bigger body. There's a difference between big n little...around 3 cm longitude, and around 5 mm of thickness body. I can't compare them right now cuz i have at home only the white one, but i can send you if u wish the measures.
Isn't easy to find them on the used market, cuz they build a little quantity of guitars. But they build QUALITY. I have a couple of Jacksons, and the best of them is a Soloist, a Kramer Pacer Custom (1987), a couple of Charvels (the best of them is a Model 6 (1988), Gibson Explorers, one of them a Matthias Jabs model from 1988, (i play that on my facebook avatar pic) Ibanez JEM (from the good period, 1989), 2 Strats..but are different kind of guitars, u know what i mean...a handmade guitar built with my father long time ago, with cool sound...but all of them, compared with Robins can't do nothing. They are my main axes on stage. If i uses a Explorer sometimes, is only cuz these guitars looks cool and i like them, that's all. But doesn't sound amazing, they simply sound correct.
If you find a decent Robin, they are a good deal, cuz they are sold in ridiculous prices. U can find one used at 600 euros...that's a fucking gift. If you compare these prices with an used ESP Horizon, way overrated guitar.....that's a fucking gift. If u find one, u have to attend to the pickups. Not all of them are loaded with the best stuff. My models had Schaller with EMG look, without polar pieces, those in black plastic covers. Deffinitively, they're not cool..others are loaded with PJ Marx, plenty of body and mids. They sound nice, aggresive tone and high output. There's other Robins loaded with Rio Grande pickups..fuckin great. But if you find one of the first ones they have Schaller (they show Robin name on the cover). Mines are changed all. Snake guitar has Bare Knuckles custom pickups, built exclusively for this guitar, and the model is War Pig. My white one has DiMarzio Evolution at bridge, and SD Mini JB, and they are very punchy and ballsy.
Hand made in Houston. The factory closed the past year. They build 60 guitars per month, gettin excellent instruments. Thicker tone and sweet highs. Reliables as the best. Mines build in the same week, in Nov 1990.
The bad thing. At least 4 different contour shape of necks for same models, but have excellent Jumbo 6000 frets work by factory, very good playability. The necks were handmade by John Buscarino in North Carolina with fuckin good woods. I've had to sold a guitar for buy a Robin Medley Korina, but i bought a Charvel Model 6 a few weeks before, and a Kramer Pacer Custom short time before.....i'm sure about that guitar value was over 3.500 euros new, and was offered to me in a few more than 700....
what a shit to don't buy that guitar...
