Album O' The Week : Dr. Feelgood

We touched on this one yesterday, but we're going to follow it up by making it our album o' the week. This album came out in '89, but for some reason to me it seemed like an 90's record. I think it's because right after this album came out I had moved back to North Carolina and away from my South Dakota buddies with whom my metal roots were forged. I got into this record for a little bit, but it never rocked me like the earlier Crue albums. After doing…

I think I might have overlooked this one

because I'm always to busy listening to Girls or Theater of Pain, or Shout at the Devil, but Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue is a pretty damn good rock and roll record from start to finish. I always just listened to the title track and that was it, but this album has some kick-ass tracks on it. She Goes Down is going in my mp3 player tonight. Just thought I'd throw that out there because I was never a big fan of this album, but it's worth a second look. Maybe we'll feature it on AOTW tomorrow. Good… Continue

Which Song Rocked Harder : Two From Twisted Sister

If you were a Stay Hungry fan (as I was) then you probably remember these two. I personally think they were the best on the album. This week's WSRH will have two songs within a song do battle. Horror-Teria was actually two short singles, Captain Howdy and Street Justice. Two very good songs about evil and corruption and we're going to throw them in the ring and see which evil song wins. This band will be… Continue

The New Megadeth: United Abominations

If you haven't heard or bought it already, please do. It's good from start to finish, but the highlights to me are Blessed Are The Dead and Sleepwalker. The sound hasn't changed much for these guys, and that's a good thing. Blessed Are The Dead sounds like it came straight from Youthanasia age Megadeth and the other stuff has the undeniable groove and the great growls that made this band great. Let's try… Continue

Puddle of Mudd/Cheap Trick

Cheap Trick was very good last night, but the surprise was Puddle Of Mudd. There's no doubt that these guys watched our hair metal heroes growing up. They put on a hell of a show, and even played Another Thing Coming by the Priest. Good night, good show. I want everyone out there to enjoy their holiday tomorrow. Have a great weekend gang!!

Obscure Metal Song Of The Week : Close Your Eyes Forever

Ohhh yeah! Love this one. I don't think duets and such usually succeed but this is one that did. Lita and Ozzy, a sweet and sour if ever there was one. I like the acoustic guitar in this one. I like the solo. Most of all though, I like the lyrics. This song contains the single most sappy metal lyric of all time--and I quote "Like a dagger, you stick me hard and taste the blood from my blade. And when we sleep will you shelter me in your warm and… Continue

speaking of magazines i read

Here it is folks, the best magazine going (in OZ) anywhoo, I'm fairly sure that someone, somewhere in that 270 or so million people you got there, should be able to get this for ya.

Cheers

Not be lazy

but we have had this discussion several times now amongst my friends but now we open the can with our new fans we gained as benefit from this blog. Dave got me started with his comments on Dee Snider while he was in Sydney. What are our favorite shows? Mine would have to be the Hysteria show with Tesla opening in Rapid City, South Dakota (1988, possibly?) with close second being Metallica and the Cult coming either later that year or in '89. Both were very good. The next few belong to club…

Album O' The Week : Hysteria

We coulda called this one album of the decade or maybe even defining album of the genre, but we'll stay in bounds. Those points are always debatable, and we're tired of debating with a man whose face he chooses to show the world has him made up wearing earrings and a tiara. Sorry for the jab Crazy, but where ya been? Anyway, we've talked about (praise or ridicule) Hysteria several times on this blog but have yet… Continue

Best onstage talker?

I was listening Crazy Nights this morning on the way in to the office and I was struck by how there is never any dead air around Paul Stanley. There's always an "ooh yeah!" or "cmon now PEOPLE!" or "Lemme hear ya!" after every verse. He's got to be the best onstage feel the audience singer out there. Brett Michaels is close, but I still think Paul is the best. James Hetfield gets a nod here too, that guy can growl and chat and joke and curse and spit with the best of 'em. Steven Tyler and DLR… Continue

a good question

G'day gang,

Just flicking through CLASSIC ROCK, and they pose an thought provoking question, that question being should bands replace deceased lead singers or should they continue on under a different name with a new frontman ?

some examples would be

THIN LIZZY, John sykes does vocals now, should they change their name

QUEEN got paul rodgers in, different style to Freddie, I think there just a queen cover band now.

Obviously AC/DC did alright after…

Which Song Rocked Harder : Two from Living Colour

Good one today for our version of Which Song Rocked Harder. I was listening to Cult Of Personality the other day when I thought this band might be a good one to feature in our weekly melee. I still remember the time I first HEARD this song playing. I was with Crazy From the Heat and Joe Saytch in our local teen center. Good song, I remember thinking. As we moved towards the TV the shocked…

Free Concerts!!!

Ok, don't get excited. It's just Loverboy and Cheap Trick but hey it's still free. Loverboy hits the stage in downtown Charlotte around 10pm on Friday night and Cheap Trick is on at 10:15 or so on Saturday night. When it's race week here in Charlotte NC we have a big weeklong extravaganza that has free concerts, drunken rednecks, tons of celebrities, drunken rednecks, good auto racing, drunken rednecks, corporate types, drunken rednecks, great food and drunken rednecks. Nobody digs cars going… Continue

While I've blasted the

show and it's participants here several times in the past, I saw a "rockumentary" today on the Osbourne family. Obviously it had an Ozzy slant but had interviews with all the members of the family. Man, that Jack has toned down and looks like he's in good health. Good for him. He probably didn't have the normal growing up lifestyle, so maybe I should cut the guy a little slack. One thing I found interesting : I always thought Sabbath and Ozzy had a mutual break and I learned today he was…

We are a pretty

wide spread-eclectic bunch aren't we. Dave goes to the local pub to watch a soccer match and an english rock cover band, while I got to the NASCAR race here in Charlotte last night. We have diversity, no one can challenge that. I owe two posts today from being out of town last night, so we'll go with our usual Saturday post of Obscure Metal Song Of The Week. I checked out Dave's site the other day and I saw this video featured on it. It's one I remember… Continue

Sitting here on saturday morning while the boy is at soccer, amnd the wife and daughter have gone to see zodiac at the flicks.

I was watching some metal docs that i've got and i was wondering if you lot have seen them as well, they are as follows:

LOUDER THAN LIFE

METAL- a headbangers journey

& the decline of western civilisation which actually is a VHS cause DVD weren't invented yet, i think my favourite is LOUDER THAN…

While driving

back to the office today from lunch I was listening to a little mix CD I made the other day. Thank god for digital music. Can you remember the days of rewinding, changing tapes, fast forwarding and the like? Like Dave pointed out with his MP3 List, the digital music library can be vast and ever-changing. It might put an end to the "album" concept as we know it. When was the last time anyone put 10 or more good songs together on one record? Don't answer that, because we'll all disagree, so…

Album O' The Week : Eat 'Em and Smile

David Lee Roth's solo opus. Skyscraper is his biggest solo hit, but this one is the one that introduced solo Dave to the world. Tobbacco Road (thanks for the shout out Dave), Yankee Rose, and Goin' Crazy all are standouts from this record, but it's pretty good from top to bottom. Relive the endless summer that was nineteen hundred and eighty six with Eat 'Em and Smile because it's our Album O' The Week!…

Remember.....

Trixter? I barely do, so I wanted to give them a little plug here to see if it jogged any cobwebs loose. Their first record--Trixter--achieved Gold status, but the only one I can remember hearing was One In A Million. This is one of those hair bands for me that get lost (see: Tora Tora, Hanoi Rocks, Black N Blue) in the shuffle with other bands. I'm gonna cue some up tonight when I get home. Any Trixter stories out there? Ever seen 'em live? Lemme hear ya.… Continue
