I guess Ace Frehley is still around after all.....

and is releasing an album for early '08 and touring behind it. From what I've read, there are ten songs ready to record and we should be seeing the album shortly. The new band features Derrek Hawkins on guitar, Anthony Esposito on bass, and Scot Coogan on drums. Ace just celebrated a year of sobriety, and we look forward to him slinging that Les Paul again. Here are some tour dates:

February 22: Center Stage in Atlanta, GA

February 23: House of Blues in New Orleans,…

Doesn't take much more than

a trip to the local Wal-Mart this time of year to make you want to kill someone. I've seen the WWJD bracelets, and the LiveStrong bracelets for cancer-research, and while those are great ideas and the money goes to good use, we need to have something a little more metal. How about What Would Blackie Lawless Do? Well, I would say that two of those little bastards that cut in front of me today while just trying to survive the checkout line would have… Continue

Whitesnake's new album

is due out this spring, but the band has announced Chris Frazier to replace Tommy Aldridge on drums. Tough task there ladies and gents. There is an article and an interview with him here, and the guy seems very nice and up to the task. I know alot of people (myself included) prefer the classic Whitesnake lineup, but this one doesn't look half…

I know we're in a constant

state of looking for things that rock (new and old) so I have to tell you I'm really digging the song The Pot off of the new(er) TOOL album 10,000 Days. It's really a good groove (something missing in today's music methinks) and even though I don't get over excited about political rock I'm able to put the lyrics aside for the great guitar, bass, and singing. Good stuff. Another song I've slammed into the 'ol MP3 player is Run, Run, Away by Slade. This was always a good one, but the version I… Continue

Album O' The Week

comes to us this week from Judas Priest. We've been discussing them some on an ealier post, so I'd thought we'd feature them today. Turbo was the 1986 release that introduced alot of younger listeners to the Priest, so let's do that one. I remember being excited about the release of this record, but after hearing Turbo Lover, I was kinda dissapointed. Although I like the song very much now, it took awhile to grow on me. Although the album sold well, fan reaction was negative and the Turbo Lover… Continue

While we're on the subject of

metal rock god replacements (Daveo, Joe, Slam, and Music Man and I have been going back and forth) I thought we'd take a look at some guys who stepped in after a well known band member was fired...or quit....or died. I think John Bush did a great job stepping into Anthrax, and Sound Of White Noise is one of my favorite albums of the early nineties. Brian Johnson has obviously done a great job filling in for Bon Scott. Like Sammy or hate Sammy, he was very successful in his stint with Van Halen.… Continue

Wednesday means a tip of the hat

to new bands that are keeping our niche of music alive, and even though this is a new band, it has an old metal hand driving the reigns. Six AM is Nikki Sixx's new band, and I've been hearing alot of their hit single, Life Is Beautiful, here on the local rock station. The band is fronted by musician and producer James Michael, and it is through his rythym guitar and vocals that the band steers their music. A drummer isn't listed (I don't know… Continue

Merry Christmas to everyone....

and I hope everyone got everything they wanted from Santa. Spending time with friends and family is good enough for me, and I certainly had lots of that. Today is Which Song Rocked Harder and I thought we'd go with one from Dokken vs. one from Warrant. Two ballads at that. Heaven Sent by Dokken is a dark rocker from Back For The Attack. Good album, good song. I like the little simple mesmerizing bass line at the beginning, and this one…

I thought we'd open the floor...

for a little Christmas wishing, since it 'tis the Season. I'll start with some things I'd like to see under the tree this Christmas:

Lita Ford under the tree with some garland on and not much else....A Gisbon flying V with whammy bar....Music Man's music collection....Daveo's vocabulary (and humor and outlook too!)....For the Gypsy Pistoleros to sign on as the house band at the great bar I've found that's 100 feet from my building (Hola Pistoleros)....For little Vinny Vincent…

Which Song Rocked Harder....

Two this week from straight ahead rock and roll, and not so much glam. Remember KIX? If you don't remember the name, you may remember Don't Close Your Eyes as the biggest hit off of Blow My Fuse (certified Platinum in case you were wondering....or even if you weren't I guess.) The slow starting ballad eventually comes to a full rocking rip-your-heart out whirl of blazing guitar and heartfelt lyrics. Just the way we like our ballads…

On my way to the NFL

I am sitting here trying to psyche myself into the trip i have to make to KC today. Winter storm driving is not my favorite thing to do. However, I am in the midst of winning approx. $600. in the football pool at work for the most wins in the season.

On that note, my awesome 16yo daughter Mackenzie decided to get me tickets to see an NFL game. She isn't up on the game. Which is fine because she is AWESOME! Anyway, it looks like I'm going to see the Chiefs and the Titans in KC…

Hair Metal Christmas Album

Good ol' Slam sent this to my attention today, and I thought I

would share, since I am listening to it right now and it kicks ass.

It's called "Monster Ballads Xmas," and it's a bunch of Xmas songs by

our old favorites, except with a lot more guitar than they had back

when I was singin' them back in elementary school choir. Here's… Continue

Ok....new music day (more on that despicable name later in the post)

David Readman is our spotlight artist today, and he comes to us on high praise from MusicMan. MusicMan is in tune with the new and old from our metal, so I downloaded some tracks from Mr. Readman's debut SOLO album (he's been with several bands since the early 90's) and I was very impressed. Let me warn you before you start reading my interpretation of David's solo work that if you are looking for AC/DC three chord switches, Motley Crue kiss my ass…

Which song rocked harder....

The Crue brings us our which song rocked harder. I've been hearing alot of Sixx AM on the local rock station here, and it's really grown on me. I might try to download some of that stuff this week. We'll go old Motley with this one, two off of Shout at the Devil, their best album IMO. They've changed since those days for sure, but the sound is still pretty heavy. Red Hot was one that was done well live the last time I saw Motley, so we'll… Continue

2. Time is like a fuse, short and burning fast.

3. The public eyes disgrace, defying commonplace.

Let's Rediscover

The 1989 album Gretchen Goes to Nebraska by King's X

Big Rob is still without internet in his new place and asked me to post this weeks "Let's Rediscover"

Simply put, King's X doesn't belong. They're not hair metal. They're not pop. They're not a Christian band. College radio wouldn't play them.

This album is a blend of straight forward rock and roll like Telsa, a little Rush like prog, and a dash of funk and soul. Think of a…
