Maiden better than Metallica?

According to Bruce Dickinson they are!  Like or hate Bruce, the man does speak his mind and tells you what he thinks.  I honestly think, as these bands get older and more mature, these little jabs are done more tongue in cheek as anything else.  Something they can maybe laugh about if and when they cross paths in Metal…

Metal Grammys

So....I don't know how viable the Grammys are anymore, but back in the day a Grammy nominated artist was a big deal. I think (and this is just my opinion here folks) that it has been kinda dilluted with some more bubblegum nominees recently, but I'm glad to see a great hodge podge of our metalers making this year's list of nominees. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Judas Priest lead a very impressive list. Check out the full story… Continue

Metallica raises $8700 for Ottawa Food Bank

I love it when I get to read stories like this from our Metal. Metallica recently donated a portion of their ticket sales to the Food Bank of Ottawa. As you all know, the Holidays are right around the corner. Sharing like this goes a long way, as the director of the Food Bank said that every dollar donated to the Food Bank generates five dollars worth of food in the community. That's good work and good news Angels.… Continue

Mustaine ramblings

and Big 4 (Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica) concert rumors. I read last week that Metallica, Deth, Thrax, and Slayer might be teaming up for a tour (we only hope there is some truth to this rumor) and Mustaine seems to give it some legs in this interview on the Eddie Trunk Show. Check out the article right…

Metallica: And now for something completely different

I take it you all saw Metallica's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction... cool to see Jason Newsted up there jamming AND his reference to still being part of the Metallica family. Let's let bygones be bygones and get him back in the band as an second bassist. Think about it... his playing style is markedly different from Robert Trujillo's. It would be revolutionary to have a "bottom-end" (Jason) as well as a "freestyle" (Robert) bass section. After all, didn't Metallica set the… Continue

Some interesting Metallica footage...

this stuff was taken from the Death Magnetic tour's stop in Kansas City Missouri. I thought it was good to hear them play one of their older, more obscure tunes as well as note their support for their fans here in the states. Enjoy… Continue

Which Song Rocked Harder : two from Metallica

And I believe MFA is gonna be a Metallica mad site this week with Death Magnetic hitting stores in a few days. We'll get right down to it. If Metallica didn't open the door for thrash in the US, they certainly were the first ones through it. Kill 'Em All is a must for any metal fan, and it is the gold standard for Metallica as a true thrash band. Seek and Destroy is my favorite from the record, but Jump In The Fire is a very close second. Today we reach ALL THE WAY BACK to 1983's (God, we're… Continue

New Metallica samples leaked....

Metallica's official website has leaked some more samples (and these are SHORT SAMPLES here Angels) of the upcoming Death Magnetic. The album is out Sept. 12th and I for one have been impressed with what I've heard. You can hear the samples here. Also, I got my first look at the new album cover. I don't know if it's old news, but I'm gonna give it to you anyway. Have a good one Angels and I'll see you in a bit.…

I don't think we've ever done this before....

but it's high time we did. How many times have you found yourselves talking to your metal brethren and said something like "Is that the album with such and such on the cover?" or something similar. I find myself doing it all the time, so let's put the question forth to the Angels. What's your favorite album cover? I have a few that I remember vividly. Invasion of Your Privacy was always incredibly erotic to me, even though I believe they were trying to go for the peeping Tom angle. The hot… Continue

Metallica vs. The Internet, part 2

So, apparently Metallica invited some bloggers to come listen to six of their new tracks. Then, when the bloggers went home and -- hold on, spoiler coming here -- actually *blogged* about what they heard, Metallica's legal team sent them takedown notices. Man, I've loved their music for a long time, but sometimes I think they've literally gone nuts.

There are many people who have written about it, so… Continue

An open letter from Dave Grohl to Metallica

Dear METALLICA,

Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album Kill 'Em All from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even St Anger!).

I can't wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the… Continue

I was thinking about something

last night while watching basketball, and it's such a tangent it's probably not worth noting, but don't you think the bands from yesteryear (our metal era and before) put albums out at a much higher pace than bands of today? I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan, and I think they are one of the "newer" rock bands that actually have a sizeable catalog. Let's take a look...first with bands that have been in action forever:

KISS-19 albums since '74 ***

Aerosmith-14 albums since… Continue

Lyrical Challenge.....

1. I never thought our love would last, for so long.

2. Hybrid children watch the sea, pray for father roaming free.

3. No one knows how to tie the simple knots that I know.

There they be, go get 'em. Just to let you know, the lyrical challenge will look different next week. There will be a recorder on the page with a 5 second snippet of each song. This should make the challenge harder and more fun. Let's knock these out Angels, they're easy.

We've had fun

talking today about the first concert we went to. What was the best? If it's up to me (and I'm sure it's the same for you) it might be too hard to define. If you can't pick the best concert, what was the best experience you've had at one? This should be good. Let me hear from ya Angels.
