according to Tesla's website, the band will release a concert DVD from a February show in Minnesota on June 28th of this year. It will be the first time Tesla has released concert footage since Five Man Acoustical Jam. As we all know, Tesla will be at this year's Rocklahoma and is one band that I personally haven't seen since 1988. I'm glad I'll get to see this band 20 years later. Here's some live footage of Tesla in action.…
boys are starting to backpedal on the "no repeat" band clause. The forum boards are all alive with the talk of Queensryche being on the Sunday bill and playing a full Mindcrime set with actors. It was confirmed by KMOD (an Oklahoma radio station) earlier this week. That would be pretty cool, especially since the lineup so far is still being viewed as a dissapointment for most. There are still some bands they can steal away from the STRF (namely… Continue
Rob is hyperventilating and cannot post today, due to the fact that Crazy From The Heat made a life altering discovery last night...Dokken is saying on their official site (scroll down a bit on the right side)that they are playing Rocklahoma this year. That means that Rob, with his media credentials, gets to meet ALL of his favorite band ever (remember that George Lynch will be there with Lynch Mob as well).
The first set of good news is that the Gypsy Pistoleros have signed US management (happened a few weeks ago acutally) and that means a couple of things. 1--it means their popularity here in the states has grown (no doubt owing to what a great bunch of chaps they are) and 2--they can probably play more far reaching areas of the US than they are currently. The last set of dates was concentrated mainly in the Southwest. The other bit of good news is that… Continue
talk around here, mainly because the MFA braintrust is heading to Rocklahoma, there is a rock festival going on south of Oklahoma in San Antonio, Texas that is noteworthy for all metal fans. It's called the South Texas Rockfest and it boasts an impressive lineup, with more bands to be announced later. Tickets won't go on sale until April 4th, and it's $250 for a VIP ticket, which like Rocklahoma, will feature a VIP seat, beer, water/soda, and food. LA Guns, Pretty Boy Floyd and House of Lords… Continue
I just saw that Def Leppard has tour dates set for July 11th in Vizovice, Czech Republic and July 14th in Cardiff, Wales. Rocklahoma is July 10th through July 13th. Unless they make some bizarre stop-over in Pryor, Oklahoma on the way from the Czech Republic to Wales, I'd say they're not one of the "super-secret-special headliners" we've been promised.
unless you're Daveo and your weekend has already probably started with a round of Tooheys. It was a big week for us metalheads. The Rocklahoma (love or hate it) lineup has been announced....mostly. VH stopped their tour and then started again and then stopped again and now are set to start again. I want to spend a couple of minutes talking about Rocklahoma in particular this morning. I think this festival had the potential to be the biggest annual music festival held in this country year after… Continue
Gee, I wonder if it had to do with the thousands of angry posts about the lineup? Ever since the lineup was announced Tuesday, the negative posts about the lineup outweighed the positive ones by about 5 to 1, at least. The official Rocklahoma website says that the board just happens to be down for enhancements (two days after the lineup announcement? Odd timing!), but that information about those enhancements will be posted in the future on Rocklahoma's Myspace page. If you cruise on over to… Continue
we might have missed a little festival that's taking place just south of Oklahoma in Boerne Texas. It's called the Javelina Harley Davidson Festival and it features some premiere bands from our metal, some that will be playing Rocklahoma and some that for some inexplicable reason weren't invited back. The lineup is very good, so if you don't have a VIP for Rocklahoma or are just in the area you might want to make the trek South for some of these bands. Here's the rundown:
I say sort of because there are still some bands to be announced, and there will surely be more drama to come in the next couple of months. Without further bullshit (because the press conference had hours of it) here's the lineup as it stands: Thursday (Pre Party for those who have bought three day tickets) Bret Michaels, LA Guns featuring Tracii Guns, Enuf Z Nuff, Vain, House of Lords and Jet Boy.
I keep thinking about what Dee Snider said in his interview with Rolling Stone -- how T.S. wasn't asked back to Rocklahoma this year because they were getting away from the "hair" and going more metal -- Maiden and such.
That is fine -- that is "our" music as well (although I admit I am a little biased, as I probably like more hair metal bands than the harder bands). And I'm sure that most of you that read this blog are into heavier metal as well as hair metal. But I would be pretty… Continue
I knew little about Black 'n' Blue, even back in the heyday of our
music. Headbanger's Ball and Big Robbo were my two main sources of
metal music back then, and neither one of them gave Black 'n' Blue much
play. But I started hearing rumors that Black 'n' Blue was gonna be at Rocklahoma 2008
(still a rumor, as we speak), so I figured I'd queue up some of their
music on Rhapsody. Sure enough, it was there, and damned if they… Continue
So, we're hearing what seems to be reliable news that Triumph is going to be the Sunday night headliner at Rocklahoma 2008, and I, for one, am shocked. Frankly...it's so crazy that I just don't believe it, and I won't believe it until I see it on the official bill. With due respect to all the Triumph fans out there -- I'm sure they rock and make good music and are very talented musicians (all of this I've read on the Rocklahoma…
Our tickets came in the mail today. Rob, Slam, Joe and I will be in Section A, Row 20, Seats 3-4-5-6. Stop by and say hello. Meeting THE Rob is worth the admission price. He's a dandy gentleman who will regale you with his fantastic yarns.
Just kinda wondering what everyone's plans were. I've had several people email me off the site and leave comments saying they re-upped their tickets and/or campsites, but does anyone have any specifics on where they are gonna sit or where they are gonna camp? Joe, Slam, Crazy From The Heat and I are renting an RV to go in style this year (style for guys like us is indoor plumbing) and we really want to meet as many of you as we can. We'll have booze (because Slam and I will be there), chicks… Continue
