Where 80's Metal Fans Connect

to new bands that are keeping our niche of music alive, and even though this is a new band, it has an old metal hand driving the reigns. Six AM is Nikki Sixx's new band, and I've been hearing alot of their hit single, Life Is Beautiful, here on the local rock station. The band is fronted by musician and producer James Michael, and it is through his rythym guitar and vocals that the band steers their music. A drummer isn't listed (I don't know if they use a session drummer, or have signed someone on full time) and the other member of the band is AJ Absha on guitar. Life Is Beautiful has made a strong showing on the US rock charts, climbing all the way to #2. I would love to see Motley Crue at this year's Rocklahoma, but if they can't make it Sixx AM would be a great stand in. Check these guys (and their debut album The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack) out today Angels if you happen to get the chance.

Ripper was basically told to stick to the Judas Priest script and was allowed pretty much zero input into the newer material. Same thing that happened to Steve Augeri and will happen to this new kid in Journey.

Clearly I have a blind spot in my metal knowledge here....is Halford back with JP now?

Good reason for that guys...Tim Owens was the nobody that became the lead singer of JP while being discovered in an Ohio coverband known as British Steel......Things didn't go well when he was there (the band discredits ROCKSTAR, the movie based on Owens' story) and he has said that he will never, EVER rejoin Judas Priest. I don't know the details, but from what I can read he got caught in the corporate metal grind. There should not be such a fucking thing.

true Joe, I dunno if you guys caught the demolition tour by JP...BUT and I hate to say it....If Rob had never come back to JP..old mate was a superb replacement vocally, and physical presence wise

True. I know you're not a Judas Priest fan, but if you can ever bring yourself to listen to one of their newer albums with the guy that replaced Rob Halford, I think you'll be in awe at how perfectly this kid matches Rob Halford's voice.

Skid Row did a fine job of that too.

Agreed...these guys are great, and their singer is really, really good -- surprised I hadn't heard of him before. And yeah, Vince Neil can just stay on the damn Motley Cruise this year while the rest of us are at Rocklhoma, as far as I'm concerned. I feel bad for the other guys in the Crue, because they're great and I'd love to see them. Can't they do what Judas Priest did and find some younger, more energetic guy who sounds exactly like Vince, and will actually sing the songs during the concert? :)

I actually like some of the songs here -- Life is Beautiful and Accidents Can Happen are two I listen to a lot.

I'd much rather have them than the Crue at Rocklahoma -- that is, if Vince Neil is fronting the Crue. I never care to see his lame sideshow again.
