Where 80's Metal Fans Connect

Poison I think would be the obvious choice, but there were other biggies : Crue, Jovi, Def, Metallica, GNR? Who was the band it wouldn't have been the same without?

I think the most important was Bon Jovi. Although they weren't my favorite, they definitely got things going with Slippery When Wet. The appeal that Jon had with women made them very popular and opened the door for other bands like them. My favorite from the 80's was Metallica and they were/are pretty important, but I don't classify them as "hair metal". They were a lot harder and not glam at all. Can you imagine Metallica dressing like Motley Crue did during the Theater of Pain days?

I would have to say Motley Crue and Poison were the best glam bands of the 80's!!!! and that they look pretty smokin hot back then!!!!!

Well when I hear the term "Big Hair Bands" one band comes to mind first and it's not for their music achiement or lack of or their stage act, a KISS copy or for trying to look like the New York Dolls....Poison takes it...the hair, the make up, the glam....

In terms of "importance" there are two bands that stand out for me.

1. Motley Crue. Too Fast For Love was the first glam metal album released. They were incredibly influential on the LA scene. They were the band that everyone flocked to see at the Whiskey and the Troubador. Without Motley, there would be no glam metal.

2. Quiet Riot. Metal Health is the first metal album to go no. 1. It was the album that put glam metal on the mat. It was the album that helped the genre break through into mainstream music and the charts. Quiet Riot popularised glam metal.

Metal would not of been the same without the Thrashings of METALLICA...i think they set the standards of what metal is today..........kirk hammet and james were amazing and very innovative....no one else during that time had a clue about thrash metal until they slapped America in the face with it

Metallica and Guns N' Roses were not Hair Metal. I think Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, Dokken, and even though they weren't a pure Hair Band i think Eddie Van Halen was a huge Influence to guys like CC Deville and George Lynch.

RATT WAS MORE POPULAR THAN POISON AND WAY MORE TALENTED RATT-N-ROLL

If you're talking "bringing it to the masses" I'd go with either Ratt, Poison or Twisted Sister.

I agree, but for me, I think the frontrunner is Bon Jovi. They have lasted, and I think that says alot. I do however agree with all your choices. The 80's would not have been anything without any and all of them.

The '80 won't be withou the only one perfect waistet band:GNR!!!!!! they was a only ONE! sure the bands as a bon jovi and def lepard is great.i'm bon jovi fan.but most of them was alike.GNR was something realy fresh saince they was only one unlike no one else and dont fit nowhere.mithbe the only band a bit like them was a Motley Crue.but i like a lot of '80 bands such as Motley,Skid Row,Van Halen.....but my choice is GNR.Think for me Poison is not obvious choice,to be honest i don't like Poisin.

GNR is a good choice. The problem is, there were several styles of 80's rock... you could have several bands sum up the era: Maiden, GNR, Poison, Bon Jovi, Leppard. Each had a different style.
