Album O' The Week : The New Order from Testament

The New Order is the second studio album released by California thrash band Testament. If the most you ever browsed into thrash was Metallica and Megadeth, you were doing yourself a disservice by not listening to bands like Testament, Metal Church and Death Angel. I'm not here to admonish you Angels, simply to possibly open you to a new metal universe.
Testament formed on the left coast in the early 80's and saw moderate success with their 1987 release The Legacy. Drawing comparisons to early Metallica and Megadeth, The New Order was received well by fans and critics. The track Trial By Fire even had a video that gained rotation on MTV, and it remains one of my favorite Testament songs.

This album is weird for the fact that it contains TWO instrumentals (A Musical Death and Hypnosis), and even weirder that it contains a song called Nobody's Fault, which is an Aerosmith cover. Testament moved away from some of the occult and mystical themes of this record in their later works, but in my mind this is as good a place as any to start a novice Testament fan on their way to true appreciation of their work. Relive The New Order today if you get a chance. It's bone-jarring good fun.
