Where 80's Metal Fans Connect

We all know that AC/DC globalized the classic Aussie "pub rock" sound. Notables who have followed in the footsteps include Rose Tattoo, The Angels (a.k.a. Angel City), Airbourne, Krokus, and Rhino Bucket. There's also Switzerland's SIDEBURN who I urge everyone to check out. That being said, I ask you to help me compile a list of others who carry the pub rock torch.

Chop: Thanks for your reply! David Roads of Airbourne turned me on to Cold Chisel as being one of the seminal bands of this genre. Hey, check out my webpage at heavymetalhog.com - just a little something to do to kill time. Let me know what you think. - TC

I've discussed this with a few other folks, but The Angels (AKA Angel City) are exceptional and I must make note of that again and make sure everyone knows that they rule. They are better than Led Zeppelin and invented the cowbell.

Seriously, they are definitely worth a listen as is the rest of the bands you listed--good post!

I have also heard from another poster from OZ about the Screaming Jets and The Radiators (thanks Carolyn!)

Have a listen to an Aussie band out of Melbourne by the name of ELECTRIC MARY. They were one of the two opening bands for Judas Priest at their Brisbane concert. These guys rock, they carry on the traditions of the great bands that Chop has previously mentioned.

Am listening to Electric Mary right now for the first time - -really good stuff.

I saw Electric Mary at the Melbourne Priest show and thought they were awesome. I noticed that Irwin Thomas, aka Jack Jones is in the band. He was in a more melodic Oz band called Southern Sons who weren't too bad.

Good thread, Thom -- I like it when we get lists like this going -- maybe I can discover some new sounds/bands that I like. Although I'm not an AC/DC fan (I know -- BOO!!!! BOO!!!), I bet I can find some bands from this thread that I like (I saw the Choirboys somewhere in here...a band that I am already a fan of).

Slam: Thanks, mate! I'm thinking of doing some writing concerning pub rock and the genre's roots, so your comments are much appreciated -- as to all of you who have responded. CHEERS!! Also, I invite one and all to visit my website at heavymetalhog.com -- it's just a fun thing for me to do, but I've got a couple of good features... you can check out my story on my old friend, Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin and the Swiss band Sideburn (who, once again, I hope you all have the chance to check out). Again, thanks Slam!!
