Do People Judge you for the Music You like or the Style of CLothes you wear?

I've dealt with this issue my whole life. I don't make friends very well. Maybe I'm too retro.

But people know I like metal and it's like I'm a guy with AIDS or a nasty Ebola Virus. They just stay clear away. And a lot of them see my art and think the stuff I draw is Evil and Wicked.

I just can't believe how close minded people still are in todays advancing world. There is so much Pride and Prejudice, I think it's an Unseen War much of the time. I don't understand why people can't just accept that others are different and not all into R&B/Top 40, acting like Social Preppies trying to spend all their cash on designer clothes.

Do people judge you for your band, your music, your clothes?

I've been called all sorts of things over the years for being a metal fan (especially KISS). Everything to "you must be a Satanist" to "you FAG!"

It gets old and after a while you become immune to it. The people who say shit like that end up flippin' burgers and saying "Would you like frys with that"

The insult throwing jerks can go listen to Britney and Barry

Meanwhile I'll be in the front row at KISS partying my freaking ass off

i've been told i'm a hypocrite (i am a christian) because i live a for Jesus, and i enjoy rock n' roll. i'm not a really heavy metal listener...but i looooove Def Leppard. I know they were baaaad boys in the 80's but i like their MUSIC not them! yep, some of their music is really sexual, and i don't usually listen to that stuff...anyway, i think there is a place for rock and a place for worship music...jmo...

I can relate, I had my ministers license, and was training to be a preacher. I decided against it for many reasons, one of which was the judgemental people in the church who tried to convince me I was going to burn in Hell because I preached God's word and also listened to "the Devil's music" How do they know it's the music the Devil likes? Have they ever been to Hell or met Satan?! Jimmy Swaggart was big on preaching against rock and roll, he turned out to be cheating on his wife and sleeping with prostitutes. Ted Hagard of New Life Church here in Colorado Springs was my pastor, same thing preaching against rock music....turned out he was hiring male prostitutes and smoking meth...it was all over CNN. Hard to believe anyone who says one thing and does another....and I think even Jesus Himself said a few things about that. I love God and I love my music. Why would God give me such a passion for something and then send me to Hell for it? That's not the God I worship. But that's a topic for another thread I suppose.

i agree...actually i don't particularly like saying that I'm a "christian", the term has become soooo CORRUPTED!!! i want people to understand that JESUS CHRIST came to save THE WORLD not just us "Christians." Jesus said, "Go, and make DISCIPLES." he didn't say to go and make "Christians". i'm not better than anyone else, i'm just saved by GRACE and i've chosen to live my life for CHRIST and to show his LOVE and mercy to THE WORLD!!!!

the people you have mentioned are HUMAN, I'm not excusing their hypocrisy, but people are HUMAN, just because we have chosen to FOLLOW CHRIST doesn't mean we're PERFECT!! you're right, its not ok for them to live one way, and swear by another life as if they live it themselves...i guess i just like rock music and people will have to understand that my love for rock music is THAT, just a one facet of my complex person, however if it does become an idol, then it is wrong...

dude, you just described me.I got kicked out of high school so many times for drawing "overtly sexual or violent" pictures that I had to volunteer for a military academy to get a diploma, this would have been my senior year(went to the academy 2 years ago). But to answer your question, I wear leather and denim, patches, spikes, and pins. My buddies wear tripp pants, fishnet shirts and sport black fingernails, so real metal is rarely played without an argument.

People judge EVERYTHING about you -- that's a fact of life. Some may say they don't judge, but that's not the case. It's human nature.

Now, they may judge positively or negatively, depending...but they will always judge based upon their own upbringing and experiences (and beliefs).

When I saw your post, I clicked on your picture and I judged you. Now, since I happen to like metal, cool looking guitars, and crazy motherfuckers like yourself (and that is said with the utmost respect), I happened to have judged you positively. ;)

That's why we metal heads have formed a group -- an alliance if you will. Some metal heads look the part, some of us don't (I try -- it just doesn't look as good on me as it does on some) -- but we all appreciate each other for our music tastes, and can set aside our natural judgments of what a person looks like and accept them as one of the metal militia.

Damn...that sounded political. I may run for the President of MFA. ;)

I have always been judged, half my family won't talk to me because they think I love Satan. But if thats what they think fuck them. I know I'm not, and I love my music. So to me it is whatever.

Alot of ppl who know me . .and see the way I dress . .love my style! I attract alot of different ppl. The ones that snob their nose up at me . .I just look at them and give them an evil laugh . . .and tell them that their sh*t still stinks! But over all, ALOT of ppl compliment the way I look from head to toe. And ppl that have seen me or know me consider me as a Metal Rock Chick . . .especially at my age. LMFAO

In short,

When I was in high school, people were definately like that. Almost everyone there really...I wore band t-shirts a lot of times to school, stuff like that.
But luckily I've met some good friends who love the same stuff that I do.

I've never really cared. If they called me names or said ignorant things they were smart enough to keep their mouth shut to me, What set me off is when they'd talk about my friends and family, because as hot headed as I have been known to get I'd have made a few of them eat their teeth, lol

I usually wear Levis, cotton, rayon, silk, suede, or lace usually so there's not much they can say, except maybe how boring I look...haha
