Where 80's Metal Fans Connect
New Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson..what do you think?
Being a fan of this band from the start (I bought SPREADING THE DISEASE as a new release) I'm very partial to the Joey Belladonna era of the band. I'm not gonna touch on the Neil Turbin album, it was just the debut and Anthrax didn't reach the big leagues and become one of the big 4 (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax) until Joey came on board. I loved all the Island releases in the 80's through the early 90's and was very sad and a bit let down when Scott and Charlie fired Joey. However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel when John Bush joined the ranks. I was a die hard Armored Saint fan and was stoked somebody from that band finally made it to the big time (why Joey Vera ever turned down the bass duties in Metallica after Cliff died I'll never know)
I like the first Bush album with Anthrax "SOUND OF WHITE NOISE" but to be honest the pairing always left me a bit cold. It wasn't quite Anthrax and it wasn't quite Armored Saint. It was a hybrid of both and worked for awhile but soon fizzled out.
Fast forward to 2005. Bush out and Joey back. Reunion tour is a go (I remember Scott saying Joey was dead to him...but I guess money talks) I'm a happy camper and catch the reunion show. Plans for a new album are in the works and opening position on the Heaven and Hell tour await (which went to Megadeth).....bomb drops....Joey out (rumored quit over money issues), John won't come back and new guy Dan Nelson steps in. Who is Dan Nelson? Got me.
MY TAKE: Scott Ian and Charlie Benante have always had a Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley complex. Those guys ARE Anthrax like it or not. They call the shots (which have been questionable over the years) and what they say goes. I for one am real sick and tired of seeing Scott on these VH1 countdown specials commenting on everything from Friday The 13th to Cabbage Patch Kids. Plus stomping his feet while walking round and round in a circle is a funny sight to see. And Scott, what's up with the 2 ft pink goatee? Okay enough Scott bashing. I like Scott, I'm just having some fun.
Back to topic, I've seen the you-tube clips of Antharx with Dan Nelson (sorry no link).....I'm not saying the guy sucks, but I'm just not feeling the vibe. He's more John Bush then Joey Belladonna (which kind of stinks for me)....IMO not many bands this far in the game can come back with singer #4 and be a success. Maybe it's just me, but my gut instinct is saying Dan Nelson won't be around long. We'll see. Stranger thing's have happened in this crazy world of metal. Hey Scott....Hey Charlie, pay Joey what he wants and give the fans what they deserve. BRING BACK JOEY....and for that matter bring back Dan Spitz too....ya knuckleheads.

the thing about lead singers like belladonna and busch they are destinct in sound. and the new guy should sound like himself not like he is trying to pull a belladonna or bucsh . busch had his momments but single handdedly tore a good band appart cofounder scott ian should know better. and we hope he learned his lesson. we dont need a nother vh feasco. the vanhagar ordiamond dave thang. that peeps feared for along time. but the thing with anthrax they need difference in singer but not to diff from the original sound.

NOW NOW GUYS AND GALS RELAX. DAN IS AWESOME EVERYONE THAT HAS SEEN THERE ONE AND ONLY HEADLINING TOUR HAS SAID THAT DAN SOUNDS GREAT. EVEN BRUCE DICKENSON FROM IRON MAIDEN THINKS HE IS ASTOUNDING. I HAVE BEEN FRIENDS WITH DAN ON MYSPACE FOR ATLEAST A YEAR NOW. HE HAILS FROM LONG ISLAND NYC AND PLAYED IN A BAND THERE CALLED DEVILSIZE. YOU CAN CHECK THEM OUT ON MY MYSPACE I AM STILL FRIENDS WITH THE REST OF THEM TOO. DON'T BE TO HARD ON HIM YOU WILL ALL COME TO LOVE HIS SOUND. SCOTT WILL KEEP HIM AROUND HE IS A ADMIRABLE MAN AND VERY DOWN TO EARTH. TAKE MY WORD FOR IT DAN NELSON IS GREAT!!!!

sorry I didnt care for him; he sounds like Phil Anselmo of a now defunct Pantera.
Nelson adds too much angst to the songs.
He may be a great person but far as his voice, I dont care for it.

I love PANTERA too!! Everybody has there own opinion nothing wrong with that. We'll see whatthe future holds for Anthrax now. Only time will tell.

I've only heard Dan Nelson sing a couple of Anthrax songs on youtube and am still undecided. It's always hard for a band to change singers once and succeed let alone twice. (just ask Van Halen) I am a huge fan of both Joey and John. It's going to be very hard to replace a vocalist as unique and unbelievably good as John Bush, but time will tell i guess.

I have never really been a fan of Anthrax before anyway I personally think that Dan should have stayed here in NYC with the others. Scott knows who voice he likes for his songs. There is a reason the Joey and John are no longer with them. Time will tell you are right. see ya.
