I know they're not Metal, but Genesis and Pink Floyd got me into liking the more' heavier' music. I'd heard some of the stuff by ac/dc, motorhead, iron maiden etc in the late 70's,and started listening new bands. It was a family member who got me into Bon Jovi, she'd bought Runaway and played it non-stop. Needless to say that I bought a copy too and have been hooked ever since. I do like music from the 'older' (80's) bands, but maybe one or two songs here and there, I'm just not a big a fan.

A bit of useless info........ I used to work at the school that Bruce Dickenson went to....

Thin Lizzy!!!! It was the Black Rose tour in 1979. Christmas, f*****g freezing outside. For those in the UK that can remember it, the gig was at the Stafford Bingley Hall, basically a huge cow shed with speakers. My mate next door talked me into going. And it was electric.

The band had just dumped Gary Moore part way through the US leg of the tour and Brian Downey had walked out. For the last bit of the tour I think Mark Nauseef played the drums and on guitar was Midge Ure of Ultravox and Band Aid fame. Gotta say, he was brilliant, and what a wasted talent with all that New Romantic crap.

So thanks to Phil and the boys for a life of hard rockin'

Def Leppard was one of my first memories. Pour Some Sugar on Me was all over MTV (when MTV still played GOOD videos) when my brother was growing up and I was just a toddler. I loved the video and the song and I will never forget seeing my brother play air guitar along with the song!
